Dishwasher leaking underneath? Stop the cycle and map when water appears
Water that starts during filling, spraying, draining, or only after the door opens points to different paths. Stop the machine, protect the floor, and record the timing without pulling the dishwasher out.

Stop the cycle when water appears. A puddle at the front left after the door opens is a different report from water that reaches the cabinet edge during filling, halfway through washing, or as the machine drains.
Use the normal Cancel or Power control if it is dry and safe to touch. Keep people and pets away from the slippery floor. If water is near a receptacle, cord, plug, junction box, or other electrical equipment, stay clear and call qualified help rather than reaching through the wet area to shut something off.
The short answer
Cancel the cycle with the normal control, keep people off the wet floor, and note the first wet edge and cycle stage. Check only the door opening, detergent, loading, visible sink-cabinet connections, and an accessible shutoff identified by the manual. Do not move the installed dishwasher, remove its toe panel, reach underneath, tighten pressurized fittings, or handle a plug, cord, breaker, or valve from a wet area.
Make a cycle-stage map
Photograph the first visible water from a dry standing point, note the displayed cycle or code, and write down the time. Dry only reachable floor; do not push towels under the appliance. If the source has stopped and no electrical hazard exists, the record may be enough. Do not run another full load just to recreate a leak.
Look at the door path after motion stops
Once the machine is quiet and the door releases normally, check for a utensil or pan preventing closure, food on the gasket, a visibly folded or torn seal, and rack items that could redirect spray. Maytag says items caught between the seal and tub or protruding beyond a rack can prevent a proper seal. Water vapor can also condense at the door vent and leave a spot after the fully opened door extends; timing separates that small event from an active wash leak.
Treat suds as evidence
Look through the closed door or open it only as the manual directs after the cycle has stopped. Maytag says hand-dish soap, too much detergent, and residue from spray-on dish cleaners can create excess suds that push water out. If foam is present, leave the machine off and follow the exact manufacturer's cleanup directions. Do not improvise additives or keep cycling the appliance when water is already escaping.
Inspect the dry, visible connection area
Without moving the dishwasher, look inside the sink cabinet for fresh drops, staining, a wet supply or drain connection, or a hose that changed position. Do not put a hand on a wet fitting or tighten it under pressure. Close a known, dry, freely operating dishwasher shutoff only if it is safely reachable; never force a corroded valve. Whirlpool lists loose or damaged supply and drain connections as possible leak paths, while water under the center or rear can involve internal pump, diverter, motor-seal, or overfill faults that need service.
Hand off the timeline, not a part guess
Give the technician the model and serial number, first wet location, exact cycle stage, photos, code, detergent name and amount, load arrangement, door condition, recent installation or plumbing work, and any sink-cabinet moisture. My opinion: one well-observed stop is worth more than three reruns. A second test can enlarge floor and cabinet damage while adding little if the first timeline already shows an active leak. Leave leveling adjustments, toe-panel access, valves, pumps, seals, wiring, and movement of the installed appliance to the installer or qualified service.
