Washing machine shaking violently during spin? Stop and sort the pattern
A single tangled load, a new installation, and a washer that walks on every spin call for different next steps. Stop the cycle, inspect the load and setup, and leave internal suspension theories out of the first check.

Violent shaking is a stop signal. Do not brace the cabinet with your body or reach behind a machine that is walking. Use the normal Pause, Cancel, or Power control, stand clear, and wait for all motion to end. Shut off an accessible dry supply valve only if a hose is leaking and the valve turns normally.
The first split is simple: did this happen with one awkward load, only after installation or moving, or on nearly every spin? That answer is more useful than naming a failed suspension part you cannot inspect safely.
The short answer
Pause or cancel the cycle with the normal control, wait for the tub to stop, and document the load, floor, hose movement, machine position, installation date, and code. Follow the exact manual for load limits, leveling, calibration, and shipping hardware. Do not hold a moving washer, climb behind it, tip it, open panels, or guess at internal springs, dampers, bearings, or counterweights.
Stop before the washer can walk farther
Use the ordinary control and stay away until the drum is still. Do not grab the cabinet, stand on a wet floor, pull the plug while the machine is moving, or squeeze between appliances. Photograph the washer's position, hose and cord slack visible from the front or side, any water, the displayed code, and the load before rearranging it.
Separate one bad load from a repeating fault
After the door or lid releases normally, look for a single waterlogged item, a blanket rolled into a ball, tangled clothing, or a load outside the model's stated size and fabric limits. Redistribute or remove items according to the manual. Do not add random weight to force balance. If a corrected load spins normally, record that result; if several ordinary loads cause hard impacts or walking, stop testing and arrange service.
Check stability without moving the machine
When the washer is off, empty, and dry around the base, press gently at opposite top corners as the manufacturer directs. LG and Samsung both say the cabinet should sit firmly at its corners on a stable, level floor. Note rocking, a loose pedestal, damaged flooring, flex, or a foot that is not in solid contact. Use only the model's leveling instructions or return the job to the installer. Do not tilt the washer or crawl under it.
Treat a new installation as its own branch
Front-load washers commonly ship with hardware that restrains the tub. LG warns that leaving its shipping bolts and retainers in place can cause severe vibration and permanent damage; Samsung also tells owners of newly installed front loaders to confirm removal. The number, location, removal method, caps, and later storage instructions are model-specific. Check the paperwork and visible rear area only if it is accessible without moving the washer. Otherwise call the installer. Do not remove a bolt because it merely resembles shipping hardware.
Watch hoses and hand off the pattern
From a safe side view during one manual-approved test, note whether fill or drain hoses slap the wall, stretch tight, leak, or pull as the cabinet shifts. Stop at once if the washer walks or impacts. My view: anti-vibration pads should not be the first response to a machine that crosses the floor. They can hide an installation, floor, load, or equipment problem without correcting it. Give service the model, load pattern, installation history, floor and pedestal details, codes, video, hose behavior, and whether the empty cabinet rocks. Search CPSC recalls before further use if damage or abnormal behavior persists.

- One blanket or bath mat, a few heavy items, a mixed load, overfilled drum, very small load, tangled pieces, or an empty test specified by the manual.
- Installation
- New, recently moved, placed on a pedestal, adjusted, or unchanged for years. Record who installed it and whether the exact setup checklist was completed.
- Movement
- Cabinet rocks while idle, feet lift, floor flexes, hoses strike the wall, machine walks, drum hits the cabinet, or only ordinary vibration is present.
- Stop
- Leak, damaged hose or cord, plug pulled tight, burning smell, sparks, electrical trip, grinding or impact, cabinet damage, or movement toward stairs, a drain, or another appliance.
